Balance by Loretta

Have you ever sat in a room with dim lighting and calming instrumental music playing? With eyes closed you could almost hear and visualize every instrument. Your body will start to relax, your breathing will slow down, and you become aware of your heartbeat. Your imagination could take you soaring through the sky and above snow tipped mountains…you might get the chills just thinking about it! That is how powerfully connected your mental health is with your physical health.

The seasons we’re in are as stressful as we allow them to be. Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas and New Year’s Day are all so close to each other. The extrovert is likely filled with glee and can’t wait to see everybody at every party. The introvert tenses up a little just thinking about the crowds and noise. What energizes you the most? What brings you peace?

This season, strive for balance. Go to the party, and maybe leave early. Walk through the mall for no reason, and then watch a movie at home. Go to adoration, and remember who we’re here for and why we celebrate. Why? Because what you focus on mentally will show up physically.

A note to the lonely: Sometimes we are truly alone, and sometimes we feel alone amidst co-workers, friends and family. Friend, spend some time with a child and rediscover wonder. Sit for a while with someone elderly and hear their story. May you be amazed by what you find.
