Author Biography

Loretta Vasquez-Chan has personally experienced the benefits and challenges of counseling. She has applied her knowledge and that of three experienced professionals to develop the guide she wished she had from the start. Her goal is to help people determine if they really need counseling, and if they do, to go into their first counseling session prepared and confident with what to expect and how to proceed. Her mission is to equip people to realize their full potential both outside and inside of counseling.

Loretta lives in the beautiful state of Colorado with her husband, kids and mom. She is a self proclaimed Catholic wannabe who practices the Catholic faith as much as she can and is always learning. Loretta loves spending time with her family and friends, eating food from other countries and the thought of hiking. At some point she plans to master the art of climbing (in the form of hiking), make her own sushi, and write a series of children's books

My Story

I was born in the 80's and grew up listening to Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, MC Hammer and Miami Sound Machine. When I became a teenager, alternative rock seemed more appealing. Music by Live, Nine Inch Nails and of course Nirvana were constantly played on my favorite radio station. There was a lot of anger in me, and instead of rebelling I let it out singing "gotta live in shit town" and "nothing's right, I'm torn". The many disappointments I had faced did not deter me from seeking a purpose, and the small circle of friends I had helped me make a few discoveries that surprised even me. What came to me naturally seemed unimportant at the time, but one poem that I wrote in the spur of a moment accompanied me through my detour back to writing.

The color blue looks good on you

at least that's what you think

'Cause you go through the things untrue

and once again you sink

You sink into a shallow blue

that's too intense to drink

And can't undo the things untrue

no matter what you think

It was almost like a light house that God built to keep getting my attention; the natural talent He gave me to serve His purpose. As much as I wish I would have jumped out of the boat that kept going in circles sooner, I'm glad I'm here today to hopefully help you find your lighthouse; the talent you've been given on purpose. Be hopeful, for hope does not disappoint - I am proof that!
